Be A Glowing Ice Queen This Winter

Unlike the song “Let It Go”, letting your skin go unprepared to is a big no-no when it comes to winter travels. As much as we think that Elsa’s porcelain skin is easily achievable in winter compared to the blazing humid climate in Singapore, this season, think twice.

Winter air is drier and humidity is lower. This weather change, coupled with dry indoor temperatures from heaters, zaps our skin’s moisture and wreaks havoc in multiple ways. Say hello to the bitter cold winter!

As much as it is a hassle to pack plenty of winter clothes to keep yourself warm and comfortable, it is essential to prep your skin for the cold as well.

Braving the cols to get that perfect picturesque shot is definitely worth the effort. Your skin suffers when experiencing climate change. What we do not realize is that this havoc actually robs away the natural moisture of the skin, leaving it dry and itchy. In the worst-case scenario, it may even lead to severe eczema and psoriasis.

This is why we are here to give you some amazing tips to care for your skin this coming jolly season to keep a healthy glow this winter. It is important to pay attention to your skin’s seasonal needs and adjust accordingly!

slather the serum

If you haven’t already incorporated a serum into your skincare routine, now is the best time to get in the habit! Serums can give your skin extra moisture paired with anti-aging benefits.

Serums are normally thinner in consistency but contain potent concentrations to target specific skin concerns. Serums containing Hyaluronic Acid uses this powerful humectant to grab moisture out of the air and hold it to your skin’s surface to deliver deep, lasting hydration.

Serums are applied before your moisturizer to allow ingredients to really absorb into the skin and provide max results.

A hydrating serum is a perfect way to give some moisturizing and anti-aging benefits to protect against dry winter air!

Winter screams eye cream

From lightening up dark circles, to smoothing out these pesky little lines and crow’s feet, eye cream nourishes and moisturizes the delicate skin around your eyes to treat signs of aging (or prevent them before they start!)

remember the spf

Just because you don’t feel the heat doesn’t mean that you are safe from the sun’s rays! UV rays can still pass through clouds, meaning SPF is just as important in the summer as it is in the winter. Keep your skin protected at all times as these rays are still significant enough to age our skin.

Take the time you would normally burn in the sun without protection, 20 minutes will normally produce redness on a light-skinned individual.

Multiply this number by the SPF of your product. Example: An SPF of 15 x 20 minutes of sun time = 300. This is how many minutes you can stay in the sun without burning. 300 minutes divided by 1 hour (60 minutes) = 5 hour of sun protection without a sunburn.

mask away

It is no secret that winter can dry out one’s skin. One way to save your skin from being excessively dry is by using a sleeping mask at night. This will ensure that your skin stays hydrated and moisturized when you wake up in the morning, lowering the chances of dryness and cracks.

Oh, by the way, we just launch our new Enliven and Active Mask! This time-saving sheet mask packed with natural fruit extracts and bio-active botanicals is designed to be used daily to fix your skin woes.

Created using a special weaving technology with elastic features, each mask fits the skin like a second skin, yet still remaining lightweight, ultra-thin and not tricky to apply.

This mask is perfect to pack in your luggage for your little getaway. You have to treat your skin to a little holiday as well right? Not only that, this lightweight mask absorbs into your skin within just 8 minutes. How great is that?

the ultimate cleanse

With winter comes drier skin and soap-based cleansers can dry the skin out even more. We recommend switching to an oil-based cleanser when traveling on your winter holiday, which can extensively restore your skin’s moisture, instead of stripping it.

Using gentle cleansers during winter is also very important to prevent moisture from being stripped off the skin so that it remains moisturized.

novu hydrocleanse treatment

Speaking about the topic of cleansing, are you aware that your skin can be rebellious when transiting between different temperature differences? Experience major breakouts once you are back in humid Singapore?

Not to worry! Here at NOVU, we have HydroCleanse that helps to cleanse your skin and prepare your skin for the humid weather back in Singapore. This non-invasive water resurfacing treatment helps to exfoliate the top layers of the skin, removing dead skin cells and impurities.

As we all know, a transition between two drastic weather can cause our skin to break out and turn out dull. Want to achieve a more radiant-looking skin?

Try out NOVU’s popular P+ Phyto Laser. This treatment helps to rejuvenate the skin to decrease the appearance of facial lines, improve clarity, stimulate collagen production, lightens pigmentation and controls acne breakouts.

Lip balm it up

For many of us, cold weather causes our lips to become chapped and lead to painful cracked lips.

Generally, our lips are more susceptible to drying out because the skin on our lips does not contain oil glands, so it can’t really replenish it’s own moisture. Plus, nothing ruins glamorous red lips like a flaky pout! Some matte formulas can actually dry out lips even further too.

You can exfoliate lips by gently rubbing them with a wet washcloth or clean, soft toothbrush to remove dry skin. Trust me, you don’t want to overdo it.

Keep your pout pretty this winter by regularly sporting a rich, moisturizing balm to protect lips!

the cold never bother you anyway

All year round, and especially during winter, it is very important that we follow and practice solid skincare to take extreme care of our skin.

These are NOVU’s top tips but you have to determine what works best for you.

Listen to your skin and don’t be afraid to change things up as the seasons change!
