Skin color is due to pigments produced by the skin and the most important pigment in the skin is melanin. There are also other factors that affect skin pigmentation and they are sun exposure, hormones, medical conditions, dry skin, obesity, poor nutrition, and smoking and pollution.

Skin lightening starts with a healthy and well-nourished skin. A healthy lifestyle, good skincare and avoidance of the common causes of skin darkening are necessary to achieve a lighter skin. Put on sun protection before going out and make sure your sunscreen has at least SPF30. Eat a balanced diet with food rich in antioxidants like Vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as minerals. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day and exercise to promote blood circulation, providing your skin with lots of nutrients and oxygen.

Ask your NOVU doctor for advice for fairer and radiant skin.
