6 Skin and Sun Protection Tips

  1. Apply a teaspoon worth of sunscreen for the face and neck, and a shot glass amount for the body thoroughly before getting dressed to ensure proper coverage. Sunscreen should be applied daily, even on cloudy days, for maximum UVA Protection, and preferably reapplied after every 2-3hours, or after sweating, swimming, or prolonged exposure in the sun.
  2. SPF in your makeup is insufficient, and usually comprised of a cocktail of chemicals to achieve full spectrum coverage; you would need to apply a heavy cake to achieve the same protection as a normal sunscreen of the same SPF.
  3. Minimise outdoor exposure between 10am – 4pm when the sun’s UV rays are the strongest.
  4. Accessorise with a pair of sunglasses with lenses that block out 100%of UV rays, and put on a wide-brimmed hat for extra protection. If possible, wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants to keep skin protected, and look for clothes made with special sun-protective materials.
  5. Sunscreens do not cause acne outbreaks, not cleansing skin well does, so always remove sunscreen with a good makeup remover at the end of the day and follow a good skincare regime.
  6. Ditch that umbrella with the silver inner-lining immediately, it actually picks up more reflected UV rays from the surroundings and concentrates their beams directly onto your face!
